Oriental Engravings

The Engravings Department of the Romanian Academy Library owns a significant number of Japanese engravings from the 18th, 19th and 20th century: a copy of the Kiyomitsu sheets (the 18th century) of Torii school, and a precious copy of “Actors in a Pastoral Scenery” by the founder of the Katsukawa school, known for his depiction of the Japanese theatre performances. The main part of the Japanese engravings collection belong to the Utagawa school.
The importance of the collection relies on names such as Hokusai, Hiroshige, Kuniyoshi, Utamaro, Kunisada and so on, and from the 20th century Tsuguharu Foujita.
(the 16th – the 20th century).
