THE RETROSPECTIVE BIBLIOGRAPHY
OF ROMANIAN SERIALS (1790-1935)

The first volume (vol. I) covering serials from 1820 to 1906 was edited by Nerva Hodos and Al. Sadi-Ionescu, and prefaced by Ioan Bianu. It includes 4,302 titles and was printed in Bucharest in 1913. This work is alphabetically ordered; it contains complete bibliographic descriptive entries and excerpts from “programmatic first issues”. Considered to be a “bibliographic model” in Romania, this first volume was also appraised by foreign experts.
The second volume (vol. II) , printed in 1969, describes 3,400 titles and covers the period between 1907 and 1918. The volume was supplemented with an addenda, which describes the first newspaper issued in Romania: COURIER DE MOLDAVIE, published in French, in Iassy, between February 18th and April 1st 1790.
The third volume (vol. III) , printed in 1987, includes 3,398 titles and covers the period between 1919 and 1924.
The fourth volume (vol. IV), printed in November 2003, describes 3,918 titles from the period between 1925 and 1930. This volume is supplemented with a name index and a geographical index.
The fifth volume (vol. V) is to be published in four parts. The first part was published in November 2009. It covers 1,425 titles from A to C, from the period between 1931 and 1935. Letters D to Z are covered only as references and mappings, a name index, a printing house index and a geographical index. The second part of the fifth volume, covering letters from D to L, is to be published in 2013.
