Latin Manuscripts

The collection of Latin manuscripts, 200 volumes representing noteworthy philosophical, historical or linguistic works, stands for the illustration of the European cultural phenomenon and contains copies of great value, as, for instance, the famous work of Guillaume Durand - Rationale divinorum officiorum.
In the 15th century the manuscript belonged to the Cistercian monastery St. Croce of Austria. During the siege of Vienna (1683) the monastery was spoliated by the Turks and by the army of Prince Emeric Tokoly. The flamboyant manuscript reached Romania being brought by Romanian soldiers to the library of the humanist and bibliophile Constantin Cantacuzino.
An Antifonar of the 15th century, splendidly illustrated, a richly ornamented Breviary of the same period, which, besides the chromatic palette, draws attention by abstruse artistic analogies.
